Building Hope: Business Support for Peachey Street Refurbishment

In the heart of Nottingham City Centre, a crucial project is underway that seeks to not only refurbish but also reimagine a space that some of our community’s most vulnerable young people call home. YMCA Robin Hood is launching an ambitious overhaul of Peachey Street, a supported housing facility that provides safety, accommodation, and vital services for homeless youth. This project is set to transform the lives of its residents, and YMCA is now reaching out to local businesses for immediate support, whether through skills, materials, or financial donations, to action the refurbishment by Christmas 2024.

A Gift of Home Before the Holidays

The goal is to finish the refurbishment by Christmas, providing residents with a space where they can feel safe, relax, and regain a sense of ownership over their surroundings. In the run up to the festive season, YMCA Robin Hood is calling on businesses to step in and make this transformation a reality.

The refurbishment plans include the modernisation of communal spaces like kitchens and living rooms, where residents can bond and develop vital life skills. Each of the four accommodation floors needs new kitchen cupboards, fridges, freezers, seating, dining furniture, TVs, and fresh décor. Bedrooms will be enhanced for privacy and comfort, and office spaces will be upgraded to provide better support and counselling services for residents.

“We would love nothing more than to give these young people a fresh, beautiful place to call home in time for Christmas,” said Neil Maclaren, leading the project’s outreach. “This is an opportunity for the business community to make a real difference in their lives. Even if companies don’t have time to volunteer, a donation of a TV, a sofa, or a fridge could make all the difference.”
