We are delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission to build a unique multi-million pound Community and Activity Village on Bowbridge Road in Newark.
We are delighted to announce that we have been granted planning permission to build a unique multi-million pound Community and Activity Village on Bowbridge Road in Newark.
Newark and Sherwood District Council selected us as its partner for the new Community and Activity Village last year. The award of planning permission marks a great milestone for the project. The village will combine community and sports activities unlike anywhere else in the UK. The plans include facilities for a myriad of sports as well as arts, music and food and would provide opportunities for communities and generations across the county.
Site plans include a 750m closed road cycle circuit, 3G sports pitches, tennis courts, an athletics track and a skate park. In addition, there will be a dedicated strength and conditioning space, a 12m high climbing wall, a nursery, creative arts studios and digital media suites. A large onsite cafe also promises freshly prepared seasonal produce as well as brilliant views across the whole site. This will really be a space for all ages, abilities and interests.
The site is next to the District Council`s Sports and Fitness Centre which has an impressive gym suite and swimming pool. The sites will complement each other, offering an incredibly broad range of activities and services between them.
Cllr Roger Blaney, Leader of Newark & Sherwood DC said:
“For more than 20 years, the District Council has had a vision to see a comprehensive re-development of this site with a full range of sporting, recreational and social activities that could be used by people across the whole community. Last December, the Council concluded that the YMCA was the one organisation that could turn that vision into reality. They have addressed all planning issues and we are delighted they have now been granted planning permission. The Community and Activity Village, which will be developed in phases, is a major investment for Newark. It will be a fantastic facility and shows a commitment by the YMCA to our community and to its future well-being.”
Our Managing Dirtector Craig Berens said:
“Now that planning permission has been approved we’d love for people to come to us and talk about how they can be part of this amazing project. We’re already in conversations with the FA, other governing bodies and Sport England. This is going to be a destination venue for sports and communities; we’re hoping to work with some really influential people and organisations.”
The project has already attracted great support and interest from local sports clubs and schools who have all fed in to the impressive plans. The project team are working with prospective funders to make the plans a reality, now that the planning application has been approved. We are so excited for the future of the Village!
