From August 30th until October 18th 2019, eight crews of people who live and work in Newark traversed the British seas in a relay-style sailing voyage around the UK. But, these aren’t sailors!
Community members took on this fundraising challenge because they want to make a difference – all in aid of the YMCA Newark and Sherwood Community and Activity Village.
Reactions from our sailors
“I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience – even when very seasick! I thought myself incredibly lucky to be there and extremely grateful. Not only is it a wonderful way to raise money, it was a great learning experience for me personally. It has been very well organised, and the crew have been wonderful – professional, friendly, patient, great teachers and very funny” – Crew Member from Leg 3
“It has been an experience of a lifetime and I will never forget it. I have met a great group of people and learned a lot about teamwork and team building And of course learned about sailing, the more extreme weather was great fun” – Crew Member from Leg 3
“I think it was a great initiative to fundraise and raise the profile of the project. I would recommend the experience to most of my friends who like adventure and who are ready for a new challenge. It was well run and very supportive. I felt stretched but comfortable at all times. I enjoyed meeting my fellow crew and getting to know about the YMCA” – Crew Member from Leg 4
