As a regional champion for gender equality and diversity inside and outside of the workplace, Nottinghamshire YMCA is proudly supporting International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021.
Suitably branded as #ChooseToChallenge, the priority of this year’s International Women’s Day (Monday 8 March) campaign is to raise awareness of gender bias and proactively ‘choose to challenge’ inequalities because ‘from challenge comes change’.
Combatting inequality
With national media reporting fears of the coronavirus pandemic causing ‘more household chores for women that set back gains in equality’, the spotlight this year is tightly focused upon the question of whether the gender equality scales are being tipped in a culturally damaging direction on a global scale due to new living conditions created by COVID-19.
That is why is has never been more important to safeguard the rights of all women to ensure their ability to fulfil their potential and life goals – whether that is to simply be accepted as themselves, succeed in a career, complete education/training, raise a family, travel or pursue something different entirely. Each of us has the choice and power to create a more inclusive, fair world together for future generations, and now is the time to raise your hand to challenge inequality.
Raise your hand
We are asking all our YMCA staff members and supporters – of all genders – to share on social media a photo of you raising a hand to show that you stand with us in calling out gender bias and inequality, tagging @nottsymca and #ChooseToChallenge.
So whether you identify as female or have a mother, sister, daughter, grandma, friend, colleague or female role model – stand with us this #IWD2021 to challenge the obstacles that exist between today and our journey to achieve true gender equality in our future.
