Did you know that today is World Vegetarian Day? Well it certainly is, and we have found that ensuring a balanced diet is so important for maintaining your overall sense of wellbeing – not to mention that promoting healthy living and social responsibility is central to everything we do at the YMCA!
Healthy Living
Set-up by the North American Vegetarian Society in 1977 and endorsed by the International Vegetarian Union in 1978, this day of celebration is designed “to promote the joy, compassion and life-enhancing possibilities of vegetarianism”, in addition to inspiring awareness of the ethical, environmental, health and humanitarian benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle.
At Nottinghamshire YMCA, our gym trainers are always on hand to provide top tips on healthy eating and nutrition guidance for managing a varied and balanced diet depending on your body type and lifestyle. Every person’s body is unique, and ensuring you are getting sufficient protein into your diet if you are not a meat eater is very important.
Social Responsibility
Our teams also understand that meal-time often means so more than fuelling the tank. Food and the cooking process can be a real bonding experience, and it is great to see residents who are living at our supported accommodation in Nottingham city centre experimenting with new recipes in our charity’s Training Kitchen before sharing a meal together. We always like to try something new!
So to all our herbivore friends, we hope you have a lovely day indulging in all-things vegetarian, and enjoy cooking up some tasty veggie treats this evening!
