Our Community & Activity Village

The YMCA Community & Activity Village is a landmark facility for Newark. A home to a wide range of sports, education, training, hospitality and childcare facilities.

Our Village is made up of a number of teams who all work together to ensure that everyone has the best possible experience when they visit.

Careers in Childcare

YMCA Nursery

We are a child-centred nursery that meets the needs of the children through “in-the-moment planning”. Our purpose built nursery offers exciting  opportunities to support their learning and development.

From Apprenticeships and Early Years Educators, through to Nursery Assistants and our very own Nursery Chef, we have a whole range of roles within our nursery no matter your level of experience.  We can support you with your Level 3 Early Years Workforce qualification and beyond!

Climbing Centre

Our Climbing Centre is an impressive, purpose-built facility with a huge amount of exciting features and programmes on offer for all ages and abilities.

With a new and modern feel, there is a wide range of holds and volumes, all built to the highest European standards. With bouldering areas, a 15m high main wall, an IFSC Olympic standard speed wall and Clip ‘n Climb.

With our team of Climbing Assistant and Instructors, we are able to offer roles on a flexible casual basis or on a permanent contract basis.  We can support you with professional qualifications either to begin your climbing career or further it!

Facilities

Our facilities team are the backbone of the Village; from the cleaning of the building, the maintenance of the outdoor space to the upkeep of the football pitches and setting up of rooms for our visitors, our facilities team work tirelessly to ensure our services can run smoothly.  With no 2 days ever being the same, our Facilities Team are able to draw on the a vast array of skills and experiences they each posses to quickly respond to the needs of their colleagues or customers alike.

Our facilities team are on-site to support our opening hours, 7 days a week so we have a variety of employment contracts to ensure this is fairly shared out across the team; whether you are looking for a full or part time contract, or maybe something more flexible on a casual contract.

Careers in Youth Leadership

Camp Williams

We run Camp Williams, our flagship school-holiday programme for children aged 5-15 year old where you can work during your own breaks from your studies or employment.

We run Skills Clinics where the children can try out new activities so we can use your hobbies and interests to base a Skills Clinic upon; teach children to skateboard, learn how to play cricket or even to complete a mosaic using recycled material – we want the children to experience new and interesting activities which might light a spark within them.

You will love working with children and be ready to be fun, animated and loud!  The more fun you are having, the more fun the children are!  Without realising it, you could make a long-lasting impression on a child which positively impacts their self-esteem.

Predominantly working on a casual basis, our Camp Leaders are able to work around other employment or education commitments as we only run in the school holidays.  Many of our Camp Leaders also work on other YMCA projects during term-time after school too.

Careers in Creative Arts

Creative Academy

We run a dedicated YMCA Creative Academy which focusses on building creativity, confidence and industry skills within the creative and performing arts.

From our annual Pantomime project through to structure school holiday schemes, we provide a safe space for those who love the creative arts.

You will share this love of the arts!  Our creative leaders are experts in their field, able to share their expertise and passion with the young people.  We celebrate your background and seek out those ready to help give opportunities to young people.

Predominantly working on a casual basis, our Creative Programme Leaders are able to work around other employment or education commitments as all of our sessions run after school or in the holiday.  Many of our Programme Leaders work on multiple projects and go on to take other roles within the YMCA, providing this as a fantastic way to start your career with us!

Youth Programmes

We run after-school, youth sessions for 11-17 year olds, providing them a safe, welcoming environment where they can enjoy a wide range of activities, Monday to Friday.

We offer different sports and arts activities from basketball and football through to arts, cooking and even film club for the ultimate chill out.

Our programme leaders are passionate about working with young people.  You will be able to share your expertise and passion for a sport or activity with the young people, or just be a non-judgemental, friendly individual able to keep a group of young people engaged in a task!  We celebrate your background and seek out those ready to help give opportunities to young people.

Predominantly working on a casual basis, our Programme Leaders are able to work around other employment or education commitments as all of our sessions run after school or in the holiday.  Many of our Programme Leaders work on multiple projects and go on to take other roles within the YMCA, providing this as a fantastic way to start your career with us!

Careers in Hospitality

Cafe

Our not-for-profit café sits at the heart of our Village, with parts of the proceeds supporting the work YMCA Newark & Sherwood does to improve the lives of children and young people.  Every coffee you make, makes a difference to a young life! Our café attracts a wide range of customers creating a dynamic atmosphere buzzing with energy.

Serving locally sourced food, prepared on-site with a range of hot, cold and alcoholic beverages, we aim to create a warm, inviting community space where everyone is welcome.  We also have a conference space where we host special events for up to 220 people.

Open seven days a week, our front of house team of Café & Events Assistants and Supervisors ensure a friendly atmosphere, clean environment and excellent customer service.  Our kitchen team made up of our Head Chef, Chefs and KP’s produce delicious, freshly prepared, locally sourced meals throughout the day.

We are able to offer flexible casual contracts as well as full and part time permanent contracts with the opportunity for progression within your role and development through professional qualifications too.
